I WROTE A LITTLE NOTE AND SHARED WITH THEM SOME OF MY THOUGHTS, AND ONE OF THE THINGS I JUST WANTED TO POINT OUT, THERE'S A GROUP OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO MAKE ME PROUD, THOSE STUDENTS WHO STAYED IN CLASS TODAY TO PROTEST THE DAY OF THE PROTEST. THESE ARE THE KIDS WHO RESPECTED THE RULES, AUTHORITY AND THE TAXPAYER. THESE ARE THE KIDS WHO MOST LIKELY PLACED A HIGH VALUE ON EDUCATION. I ALSO THINK IT'S WORTH MENTIONING THOSE STUDENTS WHO PROTESTED ON THEIR OWN TIME. I RESPECT THEM AS WELL. THEY DID THEIR PROTEST ON THEIR OWN TIME AND I RESPECT THEM AS WELL. THEY TOO ARE TO BE CELEBRATED AND RESPECTED FOR THE RESPECT THAT FOR THE RULES THAT THEY SHOWED. FOR STUDENTS WHO WALKED OUT OF CLASS, THERE MUST BE CONSEQUENCES. THE BEL AIR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PROPERTY IS APPROXIMATELY SIX ACRES AND INCLUDES A 54,700 SQUARE FOOT SCHOOL BUILDING THAT'S ABOUT 60 YEARS OLD. WITH AN ADDITIONAL 4000 SQUARE FOOT FREESTANDING ACTIVITY BUILDING. THE DISTRICT CURRENTLY PAYS APPROXIMATELY 90 TO $100,000 PER YEAR TO MAINTAIN AND ENSURE THIS FACILITY AS WELL. TYPICALLY WHEN WE HAVE DECOMMISSIONED FACILITIES, STAFF WILL REACH OUT TO THE CITIES AND MUNICIPALITIES TO INQUIRE ABOUT INTEREST IN THE PROPERTIES AND FOR THIS PROPERTY. THE CITY OF KILLEEN ADVISED THAT THEY ARE INTERESTED IN ACQUIRING IT TO SERVE AS A SITE FOR A NEW FIRE STATION NUMBER FIVE THAT WOULD REPLACE THEIR EXISTING FIRE STATION. AS FAR AS OUR STUDENT MEMBERSHIP, WE DID SEE ROUGHLY A 1000 MEMBER DECREASE IN OUR STUDENT POPULATION FROM THE 2024 TO THE 2025 SCHOOL YEAR.
